Default G1 Primary Clutch Removal

Anyone have a tip or trick to removing the back plate / starter pulls? I was able to pull the outside part of the primary clutch, but the other part is stuck.. Any help is appreciated!

I don't remember having an issue when I rebuilt my G1. A good soaking in some PB Blaster should help

Thanks Brutal!

Think WD40 would work as well, or worth picking up a can of PB?

I am super confused about the shafts on my motors, I was told our OEM shaft was 1 inch taper and that a generator motor would also have the 1 inch taper shaft and accept the OEM clutch but now that I have the 2 they look nothing alike?!?

WD-40 is not the same. Always good to have a can of PB Blaster around when working on these old carts.

I'm not sure on interchange of clutches. I assumed it was specific to Yamaha only??? here is the tool needed. Run it in good and tight then smack the end of the tool with a hammer a few times then run it in a few more turns then smack again. should come right off. ive seen people use heat but feel its not needed.

Not really a way around it on the Yamahas they used a weird thread pitch and bolt size so can't make the took like on other brands as for the tool sight sponsors should have it the cheap ones do work but if you have one that's stuck on the cheap ones will just bend

If you get a puller I suggest not going cheap, you will only get a pull or two out of it...

you can try packing it with grease, using a bolt with Teflon tape on threads and an impact, the theory is the grease wont compress and the pressure will pop it off. It works on sleds but usually takes several tries. grade 8 bolt

Here is the water method, you would have to pull the motor and have it on its side, clutch side up.

you can use the water method it works better than any clutch puller in my opinion. Here are some instructions i have found.

Remove Cluch bolt.
Flip sled on side use hot water from tap fill hole.
Use the clutch bolt start with 1 wrap and getting thicker as you get to end of threads 2-3 wraps of teflon wrapped in direction so threads won't unwrap it. Don't over do it.
Thread in clutch bolt it will be about 1-2 inches away from even touching the clutch it will slowly build pressuse the water will spread the crank to clutch taper and clutch will come off like butter! This will make a large pop sound.
The Water Method usually wont work with the Puller!!!!
The tapered pin bottoms out on the crank and then doesn't compress any water! Use square end clutch bolt
