Default EZGO TXT Low Compression on one Cylinder

ok, have a friend that owns a 90's era EZGO TXT says that one of the cylinders has low compression. NOT Knowledgeable about EZGO sorry.

What engine is this ??

what are the common causes of losing compression on one of the cylinders, or is this not common ??

It is a pre-MCI Robins 295 or 350 engine. Likely the 295. Could be a bad intake valve or stuck ring(s).

If it has been without that air filter cover there could be worse issues.

how to tell a 295 vs 350 ?? any tell tell signs or Distinguishing markings/ options ??

What years would cover pre-MCI ? what is MCI ??

Yeah if no air filter, suck in tons of debris and trash into carb and intake/ engine

Separate cast iron exhaust manifold is pre-MCI. MCI is a generational change in the same engines with some parts not interchangeable. About 2003 I think.

There should be an EPA sticker on the cam belt cover with the engine displacement. Standard golf cart would likely come with a 295.

awesome, at least a starting point...

check valve lash and see if they are correct

if this does not correct the low compression then possible rings or something else :!

First of all once you have done the valve lash, If the compression rises, you will then need to do both wet and dry compression tests to determine the state of the rest of the engine. The main issue will be your inlet valves worn and sinking into the head due to dust entering the engine and probably needing to be replaced, but depending on how long that air filter has been missing, the rings and bore will most likely need remedial work too.

Thanks for the info plan on going out there friday and looking it over. Get pictures make model year motor etc. Then set valves install air filter and see what happens.

Anything i should look at while there ? Or double check

Guessing if valve adjustment doesn't do it then may be intensive work ahead. Maybe a rebuild
