Default Ezgo marathon starting without pedal

I have purchased 2 ezgo marathons. A 1981 and a 1984. Have gotten the 1981 running the problem I am having is when I turn the key whether it is in forward or reverse the starter generator begins spinning without depressing the pedal. What part would control this? The closest I could come to was a 1985 manual but I have not been able to locate which part works with the pedal starting the go carts. The other issue I’m having is that the clutch does not seem to be compressing enough until almost full throttle and the go cart seems to just move at a crawl. Any help pointing me in the right direction on any of these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Whichever microswitch is controlled by the pedal is either bypassed or bad.

I think that switch is is in a box under the floor mat. Look at the correct wiring diagram to be sure.

Probably been bypassed.

On a two stroke marathon it’s actually under the seat below the FNR.

Thank you guys for all the replies. I will have to check that out this weekend. Would love to wrap this one up so I can start figuring out the second cart.

So I took a look. The only manual I have is for an 84 marathon and this is an 81. It appears that the throttle cable goes directly to the carb and not to a plate with the micro switch like the 84 manual shows. Do you guys think it has been removed or is it possible the 81 was just made differently? Anyone have an 81 or possibly a manual. It does work in its current state. I just need to turn the key on and off to start or kill the engine. Today's project it to take apart the clutch to figure out why it only moves at full throttle and moving at a crawl.

Jack up the back of the cart and press the pedal. Watch the clutches. The primary clutch should close, and the secondary clutch should open gradually as you press the pedal down.

The manual you are using Is the same. Your pedal should be connected to a rod under the floorboards. The rod is connected to a pivot point below the seat. That's where the microswitch is, and that is where the cable should start. Are you saying the cable goes all the way to the pedal?

For the speed problem, I would measure how wide the drive belt is. 1 3/16ths is new. Less than an inch is junk.

I would also make sure the throttle is opening all the way. The carburetor is spring loaded open. Your pedal is supposed to hold it closed until you press on it. I suspect somebody got in there, and started modifying things.

It is just a cable running from the pedal to the carb. Entire pivot bracket is missing. Anyone have an idea if it is possible to find one?new? Or am I searching for a parts machine or making a homemade one out of steal. I am going to measure the belt tomorrow.
