Re: 1987 EZ GO No reverse
When you say that it won't go into reverse do you mean that the lever is jammed or that the lever moves to reverse but the engine will not crank? If the lever moved does the reverse buzzer sound, if not did it ever sound?

Re: 1987 EZ GO No reverse
Did the buzzer ever work or is this a new symptom?
Is the engine just cranking and not starting in reverse or if you floor the accelerator does the engine really rev up? Just confirm that it still drives normally in forward. Dave |

Re: 1987 EZ GO No reverse
OK that's fine, let's leave the buzzer out of the equation we can address that issue later if you want to.
What I would do is to get the rear axle on stands so you can look at the clutches from the top. Now in forward get a friend to start it up and gently press the accelerator. You should see that, at rest, the clutch that is connected to the engine (drive clutch) is fully open and the clutch connected to the rear axle (driven clutch) is fully shut. As you accelerate the drive clutch should slowly close and at the same time the driven clutch should start to open. As you back off the accelerator the reverse should happen. Now stop the engine and select reverse, start up and observe again. Do you see exactly what you saw with the engine in forward ? (Excluding the fact that the clutches are now spinning in the other direction) Dave Last edited by Dave Box; 07-06-2011 at 09:24 AM.. Reason: sp |

Re: 1987 EZ GO No reverse
Sure thing, let us know what happens. Here is a video of how they work. It is a Yamaha golf cart but the operation is the same.
