1982 ezgo 2 stroke spark problem
I have a 82 marathon that i cant get to start. No spark. When i hook up a spark tester, it shows a very dim constant light when cranking. I put a test light on both wires to the coil and both are constant power when cranking. Is it a coil or ignitor problem?
Thanks |

Re: 1982 ezgo 2 stroke spark problem
I have found a wiring diagram and everything looks correct and replaced all wires with new.

Re: 1982 ezgo 2 stroke spark problem
Welcome to BGW It's real uncommon for a coil to fail and a common problem for the igniter to fail but first be sure to disconnect the pulsar wire plug and check it for broken wires or corrosion in the plug itself. If it's good I would say your problem is the igniter which there is no proven test for. Most here when we have this problem go to the HEI upgrade which is proven. Look at the sticky at the top of this forum and read it ok. Good luck and check back were here to help lot of great people.

Re: 1982 ezgo 2 stroke spark problem
So it probably is the igniter. Cause i get a constant power on both sides of coil when i cramk it over. The wires all have good connection and all new. I replaced one by one and also went by the wiring diagram that was correct before replacing the wires. I will probably do the hei upgrade in a week or so.

Re: 1982 ezgo 2 stroke spark problem
That was my option when I had problems and has worked great for 2 years with no hitch. One thing to remember with the hei upgrade sometimes you may have to reverse the blue and read pulsar wires. Connect it color to color first but if it seems sluggish reverse the wires and try that.

Hi Derbyguy,,,,,, did you follow the "sticky" for the 3pg? and was it pretty much the same for your 82? I am thinking that I am probably headed in the HEI direction but don't want to waste a bunch of money,,, thanks, Walt~
