Default 2pg starter

Just totally rebuilt my 86 , shaft , rod , piston , cylinder ,, every moving part , now my starter won't turn the engine over with the sparkplug in , spins it ok with the plug out , is there somthing between the batt and starter that could be causing the weak starter , or being as it turns fine with the plug out it may just need bearings and brushes .

What kind of battery are you using and are you sure it's good? have you tried jumping it off? Just wondering if you have enough amps. I guess it could be a cable problem, are they getting hot when you try to start it? You sure have had the loins share of problem out of your carts

New automotive batt , fully charged , cables to batt and to gnd new ( soldered lugs ) cables not heating up but starter will quit turning even with plug out in about 45 sec to one min of turning and not start back up till fwd/rev switch is operated . planning to clean switch tomorrow . most of my problems is that all of mine started with junque that others had given up on.
I think the brushes are worn some as i pulled the rubber plugs and the commutor on the armiture is somewhat discolored .
