Re: 1998 g16 secondary driven clutch noise
That "shaft" is for the "idler gear". With the pictures (with dirt) can't tell if the outer retainer portion of the shaft is completely gone or not. If it is gone, the shaft/idler gear could move inward and cause a problem because it rides on one of the input shaft gears. Good news, the shaft is replaceable. OP, did you replace the input shaft seal?

Re: 1998 g16 secondary driven clutch noise
Input Shaft seal was intact after I removed the circlip. I want to play with the spring settings or maybe order the umax spring like Mike suggested so I'll snap some pictures of that and post. See what you think if I need to replace. I ran it for a while today and didn't notice any oil leakage or changes so far. If a positrac may be in my future would it be beat to do the shaft idler gear positrac all at once? Or should I not wait on the idler gear?
Stock spring set at b2, has a lot of torque and plenty of top speed. Would like to see if it has a little more torque. Try b1 with stock spring? And I'm confused on the whole loading of the spring thing. Thanks for all the help, this motor from vegascarts is really smooth! |

If your going to install the "posi" unit, it would be a perfect time to change the idler shaft, since you'll have it all apart any way.

If you take it apart, take a good look at bearings and shafts being over heated, and gear mesh!!
I'd drive it awhile before spending any $. |

Re: 1998 g16 secondary driven clutch noise
Mike I'm going to drive it and see what else may be going on with it. It's been great the last few days. Heading over seas for a month or 2 so I think the only thing I'll order for when I get back is the long travel lift
