Default Stuck Oil Filter......

Just purchased a 2013 EZgo gas with the 13 hp Kawasaki motor. Thought I would do a oil change. Could not get the oil filter off. In order to get access to the entire filter the plastic side cover that houses the cooling fan must be removed. If you ever get into this dilemma, good luck..........

Ever since EZGO started using that FJ400 I've seen at least 1/2 dozen a year that the oil filter is put on ridiculously too tight. The nylon drain plugs are even worse. Too many seem to rely on the "if tight is good, then tighter is better" concept. They have an O ring. "Snug" is all they need, gorilla tight is not required.

Tried driving a screwdriver through, didn't work. Not much room to work in that area. 5 screws hold the fan cover on 3 on top and 2 on the bottom. The bottom screws can not be accessed. Had to notch out the engine plate to get to the bottom bolts.

Dang! Maybe a remote oil filter arrangement plumbed to an easily accessed spot ?

Perhaps the right tool for the right job?

For the $7 it doesnt seem to me it's worth the fight. It's not going to fit one of the big fat Ford oil filters but I've never had a filter this fits on and wouldnt remove. Just attach to a 3/8" ratchet and extension. The harder you turn, the tighter it grabs.

I use this same filter wrench - what’s interesting is I know I snugged up the filter like every filter I have ever put on but when I went to remove it it was super tight again. I know I didn’t make it that tight - these get tighter on their own

I have been using the Walmart Supertech Oil filters $3. A fraction of the cost and it’s a decent filter.

I don’t buy the tune up kit. I source out all those parts and it’s a fraction of the cost.

$11 for this air filter which is the same as what came in my cart when new.

That's because the oil on the o ring is wet when you install it. After you run it fir 3-6 months and go to change its thay "once wet" oil is now more of a sludge-glue. It hardens with heat.

Which is why "snug is good" but it also helps to have the right tool for the job
