Precedent front coilover modification
I have a 2006 Precedent, with a 6” Steeleng double A-arm lift kit. The front leaf spring is a two leaf setup, short, and very stiff. I will be disconnecting/ removing the front leaf springs, then replacing the existing front shocks with 400 lb coilover shocks, using the existing mountings. Any comments on the outcome? Shocks will be here in a week. Thankyou for any input.

Re: Precedent front coilover modification
Interested to see how this works out. Is this a common swap?

Re: Precedent front coilover modification completed
I bought a set of 240mm 400lb coilovers on Ebay for $39, as an experiment. The results show a measurable increase in travel and compliance over the original double leaf spring. I think a 250 to 300 lb spring rate would be optimum with the geometry of this lift kit on this cart. However, for the dollars spent, I’ll take it....there is space to add a full length coilover between the upper shock mount and the lower A-arm, with a little fabrication on the arm, so that may be a better choice for a greater degree of adjustment.

Re: Precedent front coilover modification

Re: Precedent front coilover modification
Is the ride any smoother? Don't know if that's what you were going for, probably not, but you'd think they'd use those from the factory if so.

Re: Precedent front coilover modification
Yes, it is smoother, and it would be a sensible combo for Steeleng to sell..IMHO. Their leaf spring setup in the 6” lift kit has very little compliance or travel, so is rather harsh. The coilovers at 400 lbs rating, would be better if they had 300lb springs instead, and I am sure there are some out there somewhere in the correct length and spring rate. Probably an older quad,UTV or suchlike. But, for $39, it works for me at the moment.
