TXT PDS failure to move
Cart stopped dead in its tracks yesterday. Here is what ive found going through the troubleshooting sequence. If anyone can find some time today I would appreciate some input from yall please..
Specifics: 2008 TXT PDS Curtis 73326G07 SN 7173-226629 NEW Solenoid Stock motor Pack voltage at the time of testing 41.3 So as not to list the long list of results for each test starting with J1pin1 all the way to J5pin2, ill only include the ones that are suspect. Question 1) J1pin9 Forward 41.3 Reverse 39.9 All test with F\R showed this type of difference. J1pin10 Reverse S/B pulse to 0V was 3.5V with no buzzer.( I knew the buzzer was out however. Having a buzzer would be nice for diagnostics i know) Is this a problem ? Question 2) Power is coming to the motor from the controller. I removed the cables and did a continuity test. A1/A2 no beep!! F1/F2 beep.. Motor is gone?? Is there any other thing to look at before i have to pony up for a new motor? I bought this cart with these oversize tires knowing full well these stock items would not last and my use for the cart includes hills and valleys hauling heavy supplies and such, i only hoped they would last me longer than 4 months. tell me there is something simple I am missing. Thanks You. |

Re: TXT PDS failure to move
For the motor test mark and remove all 4 wires then put the meter on ohms rather than beep. Sometimes beep mode can be misleading.

Re: TXT PDS failure to move
Your J1 Pin-9 voltage is normal. Being slightly less than battery pack voltage when in reverse is due to voltage to keyswitch passing through a diode when R is selected on F/R switch.
If the beeper is disconnected, the J1 Pin-10 voltage is meaningless and more or less meaningless even when beeper is connected since you can hear the beeper and the only function of that pin is to sound the beeper. The beeper is attached to the driver side of the passenger glove box. You can see it by looking under the front cowl, and if you have some long needle nose pliers or forceps, you might be able to reattach the push-on connector. If not, you'll have to remove the keyswitch panel to get to it. Beeper not working is an issue, but won't keep the cart from running. ---------------- Typical resistance values of a stock PDS motor measured with a typical DMM. 1. Set your DMM to RESISTANCE (Ω). 2. With motor cables disconnected, measure A1 to A2. This should measure BETWEEN .3Ω and 1Ω. 3. With motor cables disconnected, measure F1 to F2. This should measure BETWEEN 1Ω and 2Ω. 4. With motor cables disconnected, measure A1 to F1. This should measure OPEN. 5. With motor cables disconnected, measure F1 to motor case. This must measure greater than 5MΩ (5,000,000Ω). --------- Stock PDS drives don't play well with tall tires or hilly terrain and rebels to a combination of both. The controller needs to be upgraded to an Alltrax XCT48400-PDS (or larger) with a compatible solenoid and if the motor is bad, replace it with one that is more suited to turning tall tires and climbing hills. |

Re: TXT PDS failure to move
Thanks to you BOTH!! So much great information given here on this site. I am appreciative!!
I took the motor to the shop. Brushes bad I am told. They have a barely used D&D I may purchase. Another question if I may. If I purchase the D&D will I have to upgrade the controller and solenoid immediately or can I spend that money later down the road? |

Re: TXT PDS failure to move
Depends on which D&D motor it is, some of them don't do very well with a stock PDS controller and may not like the field map for a stock PDS motor that is loaded into the stock PDS controller and cannot be changed by us. What is the model# of the D&D motor?
Might be better to just have the PDS motor serviced and start saving for upgraded controller, solenoid and motor. |
