Cushman 48v speed upgrades
Have a neighbor who has asked about the speed of her cart. She has a Curtis 1206 controller batteries are not perfect but all showing 12.6ish+ volts. Lifted and larger tires 22”. I’m clocking 12-16mph on relatively flat ground. How do i increase speed? Can I program the current controller or will she need an upgraded speed controller?

Re: Cushman 48v speed upgrades
Since you mentioned the batteries each had 12.6ish volts, I can guess the cart has a 4 x 12V 48V pack, but saying it has a 1206 controller really doesn't tell us much since EZGO used Curtis 1206 controllers in 5 different type drive systems.
1. 1206 (no suffex) = Series drive 2. 1206SX = Sepex drive (DCS) 3. 1206MX = Sepex drive (PDS) 4. 1206HB = Sepex drive (TXT-48 ) 5. 1206AC = AC drive (RXV) First two are not programmable, the third uses different mode plugs (aka speed chips) and the last two need a hand held programmer and a dealer key to get into freedom mode, but can be shipped to a specific forum member for tweaking. |

Re: Cushman 48v speed upgrades
The 22" tall tires increase the speed by about 22.2%, so the 12-16 MPH on 22" tires equates to about 9.3 to 12.5mph on stock height (18") tires, so my guess it is in the golf - steep hill mode.
If it can be put into the freedom mode, the cart ought to do a bit over 20MPH, but a programmer and the freedom key is needed. Or you can ship the controller to Bob Boyce via usgcollector for some tweaking. Personally, I''d put an Alltrax XCT48400-TXT48 user programmable controller and be done with it. |
