Default 2 stroke igniter for 4 stroke

Hello everyony, I have an electric EZGO that I converted to gas using a Yamaha 4 steoke motor and would like to know if I can use a 2 stroke EZGO igniter on an 4 stroke Yamaha gas motor? I have it hooked up and it works tho it backfires and most times it doessn't run right.

Not sure year or model of the gas EZGO, tho I was told the Yamaha motor is a G9?

Is there a reason why it won't run most of the time like you say? What's the difference?

Thanks

I would think the igniter only causes the coil to "spark" when it receives the pulse from the pickup?

Does ANYONE know anything about this?

Yes- you are correct- an igniter just acts as a relay and disconnects the negative terminal of the ignition coil from ground when it receives an alternating current (AC) pulse from the pulser coil.

Many folks here have done an HEI ignition module upgrade (myself included) in which we have removed the factory igniter and substituted an aftermarket automotive ignition module used on late 1970's- early 1980's general motors vehicles.

Try reversing the pulsar leads that connect to the igniter.
