You need to be in the com 1-4 range
Those are the basic communications channels.
Com 1 was usually used for the Mouse.
Com 2-4 were duplex communication and primarily used for devices like Modems.

Anywhere between the range of 1-8 will work. But I figured it out and I am up and running!
