Default 2010 Precedent Stock Controller Upgrade

Just bought a lifted 2010 Precedent to be used for hunting. It is 48V with 12" knobby tires, double seat. I like the cart but noticed a lack of low speed torque when going up hills. Worried it may not have the torque I need when I get it in the steep hills at my hunting camp. Also read on the forum the SEPEX system does not handle stalls well and can burn up the motor. So I am a bit concerned.

I want to start by upgrading the controller as the first step and then the motor as a second step. It has the stock curtis 250 amp 1510A-5251. I read through the forums and there was a lot of good info, but I am still confused at the best way to go to upgrade to say a 400 amp controller. New, versus rebuild...alltrax versus different curtis... etc. I read that it may be possible to send my controller in to have it upgraded. Can this be done on the SEPEX type controller? Also, do any of you have recomendations for a good motor/controller combo? I have used PQs in the past and was a great motor. Can they transform my stock precedent motor?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have the same cart and am dealing with the same issues. I purchased the DCX 400 from Alltrax. It doesn't work and I was going to send it back but Will at Alltrax said he was going to send me a new throttle map? On Friday and that the controller will work perfect then. I'll let you know how it goes.. Also the guys at plum quick said YES they can do the bandit motor with the CC precedent excel but make sure you tell them you have an i2 or IQ. Also their is a company called EMP (Electrical motor products?) and Chuck said he could do the same and sounded super knowledgeable

I got an EMP motor from them
It works with the STOCK EXCEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS
My cart has the same TORQUE as stock, but it will
go 28mph with this motor installed.
I have 14" wheels and 21" tires on my cart

I KNOW that Plum Quick's Bandit Upgrade will do almost
the exact same thing, cause I put one on another cart
that was an EXCEL DRIVE SYSTEM also. That cart seems to
have only slightly less TORQUE & SPEED then my cart.
It
runs about 26 on flat ground with 12" wheels and 23" grip
style tires. Might be the cheapest way to go.
The EMP motor was $ 595 out right, the PQ was $ 425

Your choice
Both are great choices

Dale, why was your PQ Bandit upgrade $425?

$595 and $425 is really high for a stock replacement rebuild.

The IQ Bandit upgrade is $285 with no core turned in, shipped to me

I got both from the same dealer
I did not give them the motor either time
I BOUGHT them outright

Both preform great

YES, Both companies offer to do a motor exchange
PQ charges $225 and EMP charges $ 275

I just went to the dealer and got them both and kept My motors as a backup for both carts.........That was just MY personal preference in both cases.....

I can revert back to 100% STOCK anytime I desire and keep My Hi Speed Motors to use on another cart when I UPGRADE in a year or so...

I'll put the older carts in my rental fleet at that time, if I desire

I remember reading in a previous thread that your excel cart was on speed code 3. Are you getting those speeds with speed code 3 and no other mods? I just picked up another excel set on speed code 3. That is as cheap, plus it is faster than going to 4.
