Re: Selenoid Install
As far as the BIG posts on the solenoid, there is no polarity, it is just like a mechanical switch. There is no polarity in the pre-charge resistor either.
The diode across the small posts for the coil needs to have the cathode, or side with the band painted, connected to the positive wire. Cannot comment if everything is right since you don't have all wires connected to the solenoid or have indicated where the other wires go. |

Re: Selenoid Install
Often I see a thread here which mirrors my email.
So I will post what I've been emailing in response to these questions for the benefit of all readers. There is no specific battery or controller side for the solenoid large posts. Either side is okay for the battery or the controller cable location. There is no specific side for the positive and negative small wires either. I see you have your positive small wires at the top of the picture. So your negative small wire will attach at the terminal towards the bottom of the picture. Assuming the red wires are positive, the diode placement is correct. It makes no difference which post you use for controller or battery side. They are both positive - the solenoid is a simple on/off switch. The 2 big wires are the switchable leads. The solenoid is going to make and break a connection between these big cables. That is why it doesn't matter which side which one is on. I hope this helps |

Re: Selenoid Install
Right but what I was asking is I have the stripe on the diode towards the top lug. If this is the case and my positive small wires are on the top small lug. Should the positive from the bateries 48v be on the top lug also?
If it doesnt matter than thats fine I just want to 100% correct before i power everything up i dont want to destroy the controller or the selnoid |

Re: Selenoid Install
There isn't any wire connected to the bottom small connector of the solenoid. If one of those small red wires belongs on the bottom connection and you fire it up as is you will have smoke or at least a blown fuse somewhere. What you will be doing is shorting 48V.

Re: Selenoid Install
. . . there should be a negative activation wire(s) connected to bottom (in his first pic) small post . .
