1994 36v Marathon 1st Upgrades Done - Have Lift/Tire/Wheel ??
Okay so I upgraded my old stock controller, solenoid, F&R switch, cables, and motor. I'm now running the following:
Alltrax 500a controller HD F&R switch 400/1000a solenoid 2ga wires MOT-B3 EZ-Go 36 Volt Non-Regen Electric, High Torque I'm getting about 12 mph on flat ground, 9 mph going up this hill in the neighborhood, and about 18 mph when I do downhill. First question, do these numbers seem about right for the upgrades I did? Second question, if I put a Jakes 4" lift kit and 22" tires (I'm stock now) I believe I'll gain speed, but lose torque (-30%?), how will the lift/tires change my numbers? It's used as a hunting buggy and I don't care that much about going fast, but I'd hate to lose torque (and I'm guessing speed) going up "hills". Thanks, Jdog |

with having the high torque motor that may be right. I am not sure how much you would lose with the lift. You can figure it based on the final gear ratio. there are calculators on line where you can punch in tire size, gear ratio etc and it will give you a new final gear and that reduction will give you an idea of the change you will see
Hope that helps. Arin |

Two things you should know.
All Electric motors slow under load. Off road motors trade RPMs for High Torque. This results in a loss of speed. A 33% drop in speed up hill is nothing to be alarmed at. Can you test performance on a bigger hill? What does the battery pack total voltage drop to when you go uphill? |

The best thing anyone can do is install one of Scottyb's battery meters. I just did and have learned so much about how my battery pack is performing and where. i.e. uphill...downhill....right to the floor!!....and regening when you let off the pedal. It's the best way to get instant info.

Thanks for the input, it does help!!
A battery meter is on my short list up future mods. Scottyb, this is probably obvious to most, but how would I check the voltage drop going up a hill? Jdog |

You can hook up your digital volt meter to your battery pack and just lay it on the seat. I had done this pryor to installing the meter in the dash. You will need some extensions on your DVM to be able to reach it. I just used some 14 gauge wire I had laying around.
