Default 2003 Club Car Gas blowing headlight fuses when engine runs

I just purchased a used 2003 Club Car gas model which came with headlights and tail lights. When I bought it, there was no fuse in the headlight fuse socket. I put a fuse in and it worked fine while the engine was off. Once I start the engine, the fuse blows immediately. Otherwise, the cart seems to operate just fine.

Does this sound like a common problem anyone else here has encountered? possibly a bad voltage regulator?

Any input greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the response!

It runs directly to the positive side of the battery. The negative wires all are grounded to the frame in a common location.

25 Amp is too large!!! You have a short!

Time to start tracing your wires from the positive connection, light switch,
any connectors that may be in line, and the lights themselves...
somewhere your positive line is touching ground!

The 2 positive lines from your headlights, and taillights should all come together, and run to the headlight switch,
Then from the other post on the switch to your fuse holder, then to the battery!

All headlight and taillight grounds tie to the frame, but to nothing else!

let us know what you find!

Just reread your inital post...

It is possible that your regulator is going bad!

Check your lighting wiring first, If it's all good,
then I'll walk you throught the regulator test.
(but you need to have a volt/ohm meter... and know how to use it!)

No shorts found in the light wiring. Time for the voltage regulator testing...

I am quite electrically / mechanically inclined and had to do similar tests on my Harley a while back. Specific instructions relating to this vehicle would be greatly appreciated.

Before the regulator tests read across the grnd connections one may be cruddy and driving the amps up with the increase of voltage from the generator.
