Snorkel?
Has anyone ever thought of putting a snorkel on one of these? Not that you'd be able to cross a deep river or anything but it would at least get the intake up a little...plus it would look really cool if done right

I am wondering the same thing. Sunday we took our carts to the creek and I got stuck because my exhaust pipe went under water and choked up the engine. So I'm wanting to snorkel both the exhaust and intake

Re: Snorkel?
You could adapt a shopvac type hose to your air inlet and run it up behind your seat.
Careful with the exhaust, it will burn if exposed. kind of a mute point though, once you get the belt wet you're down like a clown anyway. |

Re: Snorkel?
Yeah, I thought about a vacuum hose too. I've seen some really nice "homemade" setups on truck, jeeps, etc. I think I'll do it when I get the time. Here's one on a Prowler.
I'm not sure about the exhaust thing though. The only way I could think to keep that out of the water would be to weld an extention pipe on the one that's already there and route it up higher. There are after market headers out there though that may get it up out of the way a little more that stock. Like I said before, I don't think you could ford a river or go through anything deep but either way it would look cool and be semi functional. When I was in the desert in Peru a couple of years ago the trucks had snorkels but they were to keep the intake above the dust clouds that would come from following other vehicles. We could say that we're doing that |

Re: Snorkel?
Sure you would be able to make your engine run in the river, but you wont be able to get anywhere…
What drives these things guys? The second the belt gets wet it will slip and you have no ability to move the cart under its own power… and you can’t quite build a snorkel for that. BTW-You don’t need to raise your exhaust as long as the engine is running as it has enough pressure to keep any water from getting in…. So if you want to build it to keep it above the dust then that’s all your going to achieve as a + |

And I'm not sold on all this, "as soon as the belt gets wet stuff". I watched a video on the Lifted Cart Forum yesterday of a cart going through some pretty deep water. And I really don't want to go through anything real deep anyhow. Check out this video! Last edited by 9dawgs; 07-13-2011 at 12:30 PM.. Reason: added video |

Re: Snorkel?
If thats deep water I must take the video camera the next time we go riding the cedar trails at the river bottom.

Although with a little clutch work on both ends they will still pull while submerged, Not well and slipping alot but I have always been able to drive out. I limit my depth to the top of the brake pedal as thats getting close enough to the intake to start being concerned. |

So a snorkel with water at or near the brake pedal would be a good thing. |

Re: Snorkel?
I don't know when they started it but I know 02 and newer have the intake about level with the choke knob just under the seat.
If you go deeper than that you are a braver man than I and yes you need a snorkel. |

I'll be putting a snorkel on my cart soon and I'll try to do a good write up on it. I couldn't find much info on it on this site or anywhere else for that matter. |
