![]() PDS cart, short battery life, have load tested the batteries. Looking for battery drain.
When I touch the main positive cable to positive terminal I get a pretty strong arc. Does not arc with RT switch off. Also, after initial arc, does not arc again until I switch RT off and back on. It like it is charging a capacitor or something. Also, with RT switch on, the wire from charger port arcs when I touch to main positive and it arcs even without charger connected. Any ideas? |

![]() You didn't say what speed controller you are using or whether there is a pre-charge resistor on the controller but ...... The controller will draw significant power initially to load it's capacitors - once loaded this spark disappears until the charge drains off.
So none of what you posted sounds unusual. You may have a voltage reducer that is draining the pack? |

Little more info. No Voltage reducer. Controller is curtis 1206mx and has a resistor on solenoid. Battery Reserve capacity is rated at 105 min at 75 amps. Load test gave 75 amps for 65 minutes. Cart will run about 3 on dirt road miles on a full charge. 20.5" tires. |

![]() I just added a voltage reducer for my lights and noticed the same spark.
I un plugged the the reducer and no spark. Is it ok for things to just put up with the spark or unplug the v r first before messing with batts |

![]() I am no EzGo expert, but doesn't the white charger wire actually powers the entire cart logic system (reed switch in receptacle)?

![]() In terms of the arc from the white charger wire. There is also a small red wire coming out of the same bundle as the black and white charger wires. The red wire has a spade connector in it right after it exits the bundle near the batteries. When I disconnect this red wire via the spade terminal, the white wire to charger port no longer arcs when touching to main positive.

![]() That's feeding the controller etc again.
But again - if once you hold the wire on the battery for 10 seconds or so....the arc quits when you re-connect, then the caps charging is making the arc. Once charged there is no arc and this behavior is normal. Than is how I read your initial post - No? |
