Default New Motor Gone Bad

2002 Txt Series cart
SR48500 Altrax
Super duty F/R
400 amp solenoid
1/0 cables throughout
6 new US 8VGC XC2 batteries
stock tires and wheels
no lift
Folding seat in back

7126

Old motor came out and new motor went in with no problems at all, just removed all of the batteries and motor swap in less than an hour. Batteries back in and everything hooked up and time to break in the motor.

Where we live the road isn't flat so I couldn't get it up to speed and leave it there for long before I had to get out of the gas to coast downhill then slowly accelerate back to full speed uphill and on the flats. Stopped at the end of the road which is 1.5 miles and motor was cool to the touch so I headed back home for another 1.5 miles and motor was warming up a little but could still hold hand on it for as long as I wanted. Head back to the end of the road the second time and the motor is still the same after the 4.5 miles, can hold my hand on it as long as I wanted so I headed home again. Got to about 1/2 mile from the house and topped a hill and let off of the throttle and shortly after or about the same time the back tires locked up and skidded about 10 feet then coasted to a stop.
Got it back to the house and called tech support and they wanted me to take it off and bench test it, after removing motor I called them back and told them that I don't believe that a bench test would be necessary.

What would cause a motor to do this? Any ideas?

Thank you

Try hooking up your laptop to your controller. Hopefully it is OK, or you may be in for an uphill battle with a vendor which is uh, questionable. If the motor was defective and it took out your controller, that's called Consequential damages.

That looks like the Armature Banding tape, that usually happens when the motor rpm is severely exceeded.

Luckily the controller along with everything else is good, spend the next little while putting the stock motor back in and rode the cart to the end of the road again when Wife got home so that the cart wouldn't be scared of the road, haha

Would the alltrax controller allow it to over rev with the stock settings?

Why did you get a new 36v motor when you have a 48v battery pack?

How fast was the cart going when traveling downhill? You may have over revved the motor.

I was under the understanding that the motor would work with 36 or 48v on the series cart. not sure of the speed but let off the throttle at top of every hill.

This is a Series motor so there is no way for the Controller to regulate speed.
