1990 carryall 2 predator swap
Okay this weekend I’m gonna go pick up a 1990 carryall 2. The motor shaft/ clutch is on the passenger side. The current motor is no good so I’m wanting to do a 420 swap. My question is is the current motor in there ccw? Can I just get a 420 and turn it 180 degrees so it lines up like the old style motor? Anyone else done this? I know there’s a chance I’ll need a new clutch, belt I just wana make sure it’s possible. Thanks

IIRC 93 is when they went to clockwise. I think someone has a flywheel stub shaft now to mount a clutch anyway. Then right you can mount to flywheel to change rotation. Most all engines are CCW at the pto end until CC went rouge, think some mitsubishi cars were too. You can also run it in reverse but the ratio is lower, if its CW.

Yes a 90 "should" be CCW, but you could try seeing which direction the starter tries to turn the engine

Yeah it’s 1990. The owner said this to me. “ When you push the cart backwards the top of the pulley on rearend turns forward at the top of it so my best guess would be counter clockwise “ I just wanted some other feedback on here from others.

If in forward gear that would be right. CCW is always at the engine output, the clutch in this case.
My yamaha the clutches are driver side, they all roll forward running. They would go the other way on the other side if still CCW. |

The Vegascarts kits made an engine swap an afternoon job. A quieter exhaust some more time.

Okay so I purchased it. I’m thinking about putting a 420 predator in it. From what I’ve read a 780 clutch is a must. What size belt will I use? Will the belt that the 780 requires match up with the rear pully?

For what is worth, I was considering a 420 swap on my '89, but when I saw the HF 459 was only a little more I went with that. Used the Vegas kit. Very happy with it

Just bear in mind the 390-460 engines has every imaginal piece of speed equipment available where the 459 has almost none, the billet rod being the most critical IF you are going to run ungoverned
