Default I think my charger blew up

Hi Everyone!

I am new to this forum and need some help. I realize this is an old post but I have this same charger. I was charging batteries yesterday and heard a loud pop out in the garage. I found that the charger smelled burnt and some liquid had come out of the top vents and seeping out on the front around the power cord and charging cord. The charger was still on and had a low humm but the needle was on zero. Previously when I would connect the charger to the cart if it had the low humm and needle on zero I could wiggle the connection and a much louder humm would happen, the needle would jump up and the charger would start charging. I would be grateful if someone could tell me the problem or tell me how to troubleshoot the problem.
Thank You!

I think you are very lucky you didn't have a fire, look at the ac and output wires where they leave the case. It appears that the transformer coil is shorted and burnt and you are shopping for a new charger. The wiggling was probily cruddy contacts and that added resistance to the load.

It appears in the photo like the transformer has a short in it. Put an ohm meter across the ac side and the dc side, if you have 0 ohms or an open connection the xfmr is a goner. They are pretty costly and you would be better served to find another charger.

If you read correctly, he is using the photos for a visual reference to the one he has, so the pulled/frayed wires and generally poor condition of the charger in the pics dont concern him.

Like Rusty mentioned, because of the smell and "liquid", I am leaning toward checking the capacitor as well. If you aren't that sure about checking it, take it to a "reputable" repair shop for an estimate. Keep us posted.......

Good catch, perhaps I should learn to comprehend what I read. I stand corrected; the only thing in there that could produce a liquid would be the large capacitor.
