Theft protection for electric EZGO
I'm buying an electric '05 EZGO and I'll be using it for hauling stuff (kayaks, beer coolers, in-laws,...) to the lake. I'm not fully comfortable yet to leave it at the lake while I'm away, so I'm looking for suggestions on how to protect it.
I'm thinking of putting together a (few) circuit board(s) to disable the cart, even when someone rigs the start switch. I'm looking for suggestions on what the best circuit would be to implement and I'll promise to post pics and instructions for whatever I end up implementing. My current thoughts are to put a switch on a secret location that triggers a relay which is in line with the starter connector (start key). I'm also trying to find a decent way to get the voltage to the relay (the cheaper ones would be 12V), short of powering it from 2 out of the 6 batteries. |

Buy a good chain and lock, Hidden switches are not really very hidden

Another way is to change the key solenoid to something other then a stock ez go.... of course they can still push your cart but then it's not just one key fits all....But honestly if someone wants your cart they are going to get it... That's just how this crappy world works sometimes..

"But honestly if someone wants your cart they are going to get it"
That about covers it. I put locks and chains on everything, well use to, still do some. But the truth is exactly what is stated above. Locks and chains and all the other stuff only keeps honest people honest. The real thieves aren't even phased by such things. The best thing imo is a GPS device hidden somewhere, with all the battery power (At least on electric carts) the thing could be powered forever. At least then after they take it, you hopefully can go get it back. |

Park it in a locked building, if possible, and lock it to a solid object. Breaking and entering is a higher risk for the thief. The best thing going is a Lojac or gps tracking device. it can be placed inside the frame. The device will tell you when the cart is moving and will track it. You could hide those in undetectable spots. Other than that. Remove the battery cables? Put it on blocks and take the wheels? Take the batteries? I'm just kidding now. Good Luck with the cart. |

Re: Theft protection for electric EZGO
Thanks for the replies! It's good to see that the "regulars" post immediate replies.
The answer I was looking for though, was what the best circuits were that I could interrupt with a switch. I'm thinking about putting a few relays and possibly a RKE (remote keyless entry), so I can "enable: the cart from a distance. What is/are the best circuit(s) to interrupt?\ Things to take in consideration, would be: - Easy place to hide the hidden switch or pad or.... - low current lines - cheap hardware application (eg: 12V circuits like the car relays from RadShack,....) |
