Welcome to the forum.
Without looking at a diagram or anything, I would say the F/R switch is probably not contacting well. Most have copper pads that contact in the F position and seperate for the R position. If it's not the F/R switch it probably is a microswitch or solenoid. Some have a solenoid for reverse and one for forward. Sometimes microswtches control the solenoids actions in conjunction with the F/R switch. A good place to start would be to clean the contacts at/in the F/R switch. Be safe. Disconnect the control leads at the batteries before servicing.
I'm not really a electric cart expert or anything. No one had helped you and I can usually figure them out. Others know immediately. If no one else picks this up, I'll follow up tomorow afternoon. Oh yea, I had 2 neck surgeries. Don't do that, it makes my neck hurt.

It sounds like a POT box signal issue. Depending on the year of your Melex, it may have a pot-box like a EzGo. If it does, there should be two micro switches on the backside of the F&R switch. One of these should have a white and black wire from the POT box running to it. This controls half speed reverse. Unplug the black and white wire from the micro switch and try that.
