Default what is the role of the controller???

I have been trying to understand the role of the controller. What does it do? is it involved in the process of making the golf cart go from forward to reverse?. My cart will not go in reverse. works great in forward, but not in reverse. it does some tiny little bucking, like it is trying to go in reverse, and then you take your foot off the pedal. by this point, the 4 guage wires going from the solenoid to the controller are hot hot hot. could there be an internal failure in the controller?

I beleive controller regulates power/amount that goes to motor. I think you have a wireing broblem.

well, i was talking to a golf cart repair place and they said for me to take the black and white wires going to the controller and reverse them. then press the pedal and if it reverses, then controller is fine.
i did that and it reversed. however, is it possible that the controller is not reversing polarity automatically when switching from forward to reverse?

On some ezgos the F&R switches the contacts. On others the controller does the switching...... please ID your cart.

The last 2 numbers of the manufactures code is the year, located inside the passenger side glove box, the 2004 and newer ezgos dont have a serial number plate in the box, they have a serial number sticker under the rear access panel behind the seat, and then on the driverside frame rail below the floor board.

DCS will have a F&R lever behind the driver's knee and a run/tow switch on the enviromental cover on the controller. The backside of the f&R looks round like a hockey puck.

PDS carts will have a Tow/Run switch with toggle switch for F&R on the dash

SERIES carts will have a shift lever like the dcs cart down by your legs, but it will NOT have a tow/run switch. Also the actual F&R switch is in the corner by the controller and there is linkage from it to the lever in the center.....

I'm not that familiar at all with golf carts but I am well-versed in auto mechanics. So, I'd like to give a little input on this and I stand to be corrected by the experts here on this fabulous forum.

It sounds to me like you might have a mechanical issue, rather than an electrical issue. I could be wrong, like I said. However, since you say it drives fine in forward and bucks a little trying to go in reverse, it makes me think that you might have a prob with either your wheel assembly or your differential gears.

Has the cart sustained any water or physical damage to the rear end? Are your wheel bearings and bearing races in good condition?

Hope this helps with the troubleshooting process at the very least. Good luck.

Yep, NOT the bearings, axle or similiar mechanical issues

sorry, to take so long to respond. i fly for a living and have been flying all day. I have an electric ezgo, 96, DCS model. the microswitches are good switches. I am suspecting that the controller is not switching from forward to reverse. could that be possible?
