Electrically it is safe to cut ANY cable between batteries using insulated cutters. You would instantly remove the energy path.

I got a donor cart that matches up with mine it is a 99 and the one i burnt up is a 96. would it be better to just switch the good parts (controller, solenoid) off the 99 onto the 96 or go ahead and just switch the motor to the 99 and put new batteries in it? the 99 looks like it has a firewall between the batteries and controller. is that a good year/setup on a series cart?

I would look carefully at your donor before making a decision. How is it's suspension, steering and brakes? Is the rear axle assembly in decent shape? How is the overall condition of the cart? These are all things that add up money wise! It's certainly not hard to change out your controller, solenoid, and some cables to your present cart. This would ( to me ) be a basic choice of which cart would I really rather have!

there are some differences on some of the 99,s and 96,s so 1st thing is make sure parts are exact match like controllers.......solenoids will be ok just may have different mounting brackets and the F&R may be set up different......OBC,s will be different..............if your 96 is a DS and the 99 is a reagan than other then solenoid and cables everything will be different and not useable.......or vice versa if 96 is a reagan and 99 is a DS...................just make sure any part you swap is the same as part coming out of cart................................

i think i got extreamly lucky with my mistake. i changed the controller with one off a donor cart last night printed off the wiring diagram to make sure i wired it correctly(this time) and my cart is back in business. i dont think my batteries are going to hold a charge very long but oh well it runs.
