Default 28 degree clutch and briggs ezgo?

Considering secondary clutch options for an upcoming build. I've heard good things about the 28 degree clutches with stockish motors, but haven't seen any reports on a big block combo. Anyone tried it? Or care to give input on there thoughts between that and a stock secondary?

I have a performance secondary from Plowman's on mine, I'm running a 16hp Vanguard. It works really well actually. I had no choice, it was already on the cart before the Vanguard came along. I was worried that it would be too much low gear, but I think it actually helps it accelerate. I cannot confirm this because I don't have a stock secondary to try.

As long as you use the stock spring, and not that super heavy one that comes with the kits, then you'll be okay. Those heavy springs make it tougher for the clutches to shift-out, and the big blocks don't need that. Those engines have enough power to get going with the stock spring.

I think most people here run the stock secondary with a stock spring, and they do just fine. I don't think there will be a "NEED" for you to get a performance clutch. If your stock clutch is in good condition, try that first and save the bucks, or spend the bucks on the engine!

IIRC the 28 angle makes it backshift more, which means it would rev harder when you gas it and/or run lower rpm at low throttle.....depending on how you tune it.

I run a cut sheave on my clone and really like it, it pushes the belt to the top or out the top a little and gives a low gear. Its sort of like a short belt but will not hurt the top end. Anyway the clone gets up to rpm faster on a takeoff, it will hit shift rpm in 1-2 seconds from a dead stop. I like it. Then again the clone needs to see 3600 or better to make best power while a vtwin has more torque at 2500 and up, so the twins dont care as much about getting rpm faster.
