Rebuild is going great. However, I had to wait on a gasket for engine that I was trying to be lazy and not replace. Needless to say when I added oil it leaked. So gasket in hand with new timing belt and hopefully will be up and running tonight.

Okay motor is back In and all belts are hooked up. However it won't fire. Spark is good. Compression is good. Fuel pump is working. I cannot seem to get this thing going. Spits air and a little gas out of carborator and plenty of air out of muffler. Grrrr I feel so close yet so far away.

Timing !

Air, fuel and compression is all you need to run!

If its spitting back thru the carb, its a good chance the timing is off!

I have never worked on one of these engines so I don't know if you could have the cam timing off or if its just spark timing?

Let us know what you find. I will be tearing one of these engines apart in the next few mo's. So I would like to learn from your experience! LOL

Oh, Have you pulled the plug after trying to start?

Is the plug WET? with fuel.

Could also be too much or not enough fuel.

If the plug is dry, you could try putting some fuel in the cylinder and see if it runs.

Be sure the battery isn't hooked up backwards because the engine will still spin over but in the wrong direction (don't ask how I know ).

I always end up as a guinea pig! Yea I am assuming timing is horribly off. I will double check my battery connection ( red to green right ) I also think i got my valves somewhat adjusted to .004. Ready to get this thing running so i can get to the fun parts of painting!

Okay so found the ground to the engine was not clean...woops.... The old girl is barking and running. Never knew these things were so loud without the muffler. I am confident that I now need to work on adjusting valves. A great feeling hearing it run thought!
