MJZ-400 Solenoid 36 or 48 volts?
Is the MJZ-400 Solenoid compatable with 36 and 48 volts? Evertime I look at them to order there is always a dropdown to select 36 or 48 volts. I am looking at running at 36 volts and when my batteries go bad upgrade to 48 volts.

Good for both 36, 48 and I think 42v also.
I've had one on my TXT for years. 36v first and 48v later. Different resistor for each voltage as yurtle suggests. Large and manly. Good for "my solenoid is bigger than yours" competitions. |

I actually have 2 of them (due to a shipping error). One of them has a sticker that says 36v and the has one that says 48v.
When I upgraded to 48v I left the one installed that had the 36v label, no issues =/ |

Re: MJZ-400 Solenoid 36 or 48 volts?
The operating range of the coil voltage for solenoids is typically the rated voltage +/- about 20% or so. Go much above that range of voltages and the coil will overheat and soon burn out and at voltages much below that range the contacts won't close.
The 48V version of the MZJ-400 is the one to get if you want to run at 36V now and upgrade to 42V or 48V later. An MJZ400 with a 36V rated coil will function at 48V, but it might get mighty hot. Attached is the spec sheet for the 36V, 48V and 72V versions of the MZJ-400. It is interesting to note, they are supposed to be mounted horizontally. I've never seen one mounted that way in a cart. |

I think only the model with the dual coils (like ScottyB sells) will handle the 36v and 48v by design, You can look at the Solenoid nameplate for the L1 and L2 markings to know it is a dual coil. |

I was under the cart when I mounted mine so technically it was mounted horizontally.
