The rods, caps, etc were replaced in the same order, location, and direction they were removed from. I wouldnt think that this would create an issue where it didnt exist before?
I had asked you about checking the crank ?
Now I am confused. Swapping the rod caps fixed your problem ?

I dont know 100% for sure yet, but I thought maybe I had accidentally swapped the caps so would swap them and see. I've tried pretty much everything else with no changes. So I swapped them, and so far looks positive. Then went to Puerto Rico for work for a day, will be back home tomorrow.

Pressure is lower than I would really like... but no longer bounces all around erratically like it was so I dont know.

I'll drive it around this weekend and see how it goes.

Keep us updated. I got an engine down right now. 2005 MCI and yes you are right, the valve cover is not like the Pre-MCI engines. No oil holes inside on top of cover like the pre mci's .

I spent two years in Puerto Rico while in the Air Force from Feb 1968 to Feb of 1970. Ramey AFB . Much better than Guam and Thailand :)
Best assignment in the military for sure. Base was closed a few years after I left. Loved the island.

Hey Trig,
Do you see any other differences in the oiling system? How does the MCI oil the cam lobes, rockers and valve springs?
Is there still an oil passage coming out the top of the head? If so is it plugged or caped off by the valve cover?

No oil holes in head on the MCI. It was designed different. Valve covers will not interchange. I got both engines in my shop.

Well? I thought the pre MCI's had a good system to keep the top end oiled.

How does the MCI keep the rockers, cam lobes oiled?

I see your lobes are a bit rusty.

I believe they squirt oil from between the cam and the seal, and the excess squirts through a channel at the top of where the cam rides. But that's just a guess...

Just got home. Fired right up (as it always does, never once needed to choke it) and oil pressure shot straight to ~70 psi. Bounced around a bit and settled around 40. As it warmed up settled around 28-30, I wasnt revving very high. Only ran it for a couple minutes in neutral, but looks promising. Kind of cold today, supposed to be warmer tomorrow (around 70) so I'll drive it around then.

I can say after sitting for a few days, instant oil.pressure confirms for certain my original issue of losing prime has been resolved. Before it would lose prime and have zero pressure if it sat for 5 min.

I think if it will maintain pressure while warm now, I'll finally have this one fixed. Fingers crossed!

Good deal.

I can say mine with the oil gauge, the pressure does move around a lot more then I have seen in any other engines.

I've noticed that lol

What kind of pressure do you see when cruising at 1/3-1/2 throttle? (Once it's been warmed up for 5-10 minutes)

I'm thinking 15 or 20. been awhile since I have driven it.

But I also had priming issues when I built it, so I could have messed up something internal that causing that??

It did have metallic in the oil after rebuild But its been used now for over a year without any issues.
