What exact Solenoid to buy
ok I keep looking and see several solenoids for sale. I see a 12v solenoid and a 14v solenoid. some say 1992 and up and others say something different. I have already spent more then I wanted on a bad solenoid from amazon and learned the hard way.
S/N 940683 M/C E0796 I am sure it is a 1996 from the Manufacture code correct? Thanks for the help |

Re: What exact Solenoid to buy
thank you for the part number. Is it 14 volt to withstand the cranking amps?

Re: What exact Solenoid to buy
Its a continuous solenoid unlike on a car which only activates to start vehicle and then turns off...when you press pedal solenoid on cart stays on until pedal is released...your cart charges at around 14 volts when it reaches higher RPM and solenoid is still open...so 14 volt solenoid can withstand being constantly on better than a 12 volt getting 14 volts continuously... make sense? My explanation of things is not my strong point but I try and give you the gist of it lol

Re: What exact Solenoid to buy
that is a perfect explanation thank you, I totally forgot about the charging system and that is one thing I want to inspect when I get it running I will just take battery readings before I start it and take a voltage reading when it is running I am guessing I will see 13 to 14 volts running? If I see more that that I wonder if that is why I keep burning out my solenoid?

Re: What exact Solenoid to buy
You should get between 14 and 14.6 or so when its running...if your voltage regulator is bad it will charge at like 16-18 volts which can and will eventually burn up both your battery and potentially solenoid as well...

Re: What exact Solenoid to buy
well I think that might be the problem as we just had a battery go bad that I just replaced maybe 2 years old and it was odd that it went bad for an interstate battery. The one I took out of it was 12 years old before that.

Re: What exact Solenoid to buy
was able to jumper the solenoid to get it running and check out the starter generator and it is putting out 14.4 volts when charging so I do not think that is what is burning things up. I do not have power to the solenoid to pull in the coil. I will follow that back. I just replaced the micro switch under the floor board Sunday and that seems to be working but I need to find why I am not getting power again.

Re: What exact Solenoid to buy
Go to the Stickys on the home page for EZ-Go Gas and you will find the repair manual for your cart on here...The easy things to check out would be to make sure your getting 12 volt in and out of key switch, also in and out of micro you replaced..and of course check your ground...
