Driving Enclosure Frame For Short Roof
I have a OEM short roof on my '07 TXT PDS. I leave the cart out all summer and keep a driving enclosure on it. For two years I used a Formosa brand enclosure which make the only one for 4 passenger and short roof. After I got the cart to the lake this spring I pulled out the Formosa cover to install it. It totally fell apart. It was somewhat inexpensive but I thought that it should have lasted longer than two years. I searched again for a different brand but could only find the 4 passenger enclosures for long roofs. Not wanting to do a field installation of a long roof and not wanting to take it 90 miles home I decided to try to make a frame for a 4 passenger enclosure. I liked the looks of the Classic Accessories enclosure and bought one. One thing I like about the CA enclosure is that all the sides can roll up under the valance if desired. I did add some snaps instead of using the elastic clips to hold the sides down.
I bought some PVC pipe at Lowes and started the build. I did not want to drill any holes in the roof so I made some "Z" brackets from some 1/4" aluminum flat stock bending them in my vice at home. They attach on the under side of the rear roof bolts. I then pop riveted pvc caps to the brackets. Once I installed the caps the rest of the build is pretty simple. I used 1/4" stainless bolts to attach the rear supports to the rear flip seat handles. I originally had the rear uprights going straight up until I test fit the enclosure and found that it only came to the front of the foot rest. So I decide to leave the supports mounted where they were and try heat bending the pipe. With the help of a friend I used a heat gun and "washed" the pipe until it was bendable. I you put a little pressure on the pipe while you heat it you can feel when it releases and it is ready to bend. After getting the desired bend hold it there for a minute until it cools. In the middle support I tied a piece of swim noodle to keep rain from pooling. I will be painting the pipe with black Krylon fusion before reinstalling the enclosure. So for just a few bucks and less than an hour mission accomplished. I may install the long roof someday but for now this works fine. |

That's really a cool idea. I will have to try something like that. Don't have the enclosure yet but it is next on the list.

Did the same thing for my cart a few years back, however not as nice as yours is since I only use my cover for a few months out of the year. I built mine out of PVC and just use zip ties to attach it to the rear roof supports when needed.

Very nice!!! Give a man some PVC pipe, a drill, a few beers, some time, and there's no telling what brilliance will come from what is left of the few working cells in said grey matter!!! Or....as it's know at my house....."Dead brain cell Savant"

Re: Driving Enclosure Frame For Short Roof
I built it at my marina. I have a deck on the dock in front of my houseboat where I park the cart. I had a lot of "inspiration" from my neighbors. And a few Bud Light's were consumed in the creation.
