Ok, so charger is causing a rise in battery pack voltage, but the ammeter always reads 0? If this is the case, I may have been wrong, ammeter may be bad (or incorrectly connected).

digital voltmeter jumps from 37.8 after resting an hour or so to 44.0 or so
Would you clarify this for me. Is this with the charger disconnected and rested an hour or so?

Sorry beginjng voltage 37.8 and ending voltage 44.0 volts. Ammeter never moves from zero.

If charger wiring hasn't been modified the charging current is flowing through the amp meter. The meter movement probably bad. The charger is probably working correctly you just don't have a indication.

Well tested batteries with hydrometer. Two batteries fail while other four are fair. I am completely upset with these batteries. I never ran below 50% and charged after every use. I topped them off with distilled water often. I have a hard time believing this is as long as they last. Should have bought a gas cart!

Try bypassing the relay in the charger and let it run for about 12-16 hours.

If there is any life left in those batteries, that ought to perk them up a bit.
