Default Electric Motor Shaft Problems

I'm changing out the motor on my 87 EZGO Electric Marathon. I can't get the shaft out of the old motor. Can any one provide suggestions?

I dont think you can take it out. I think its a integral part of the armature.

87 is a special year, takes a special motor with the extra long keyed and threaded shaft in the armature. Read why it is special here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-rear-end.html specifically post #12 and #18.

Thanks for the response. So I guess I will call D&D Motors back Monday and see why they sold me a motor that won't work or did not tell me I needed to buy a new shaft so that it will work. The shaft is definitely one piece.

The whole problem is that it's a different rear end that requires a special motor that nobody builds. Luna Rebuilders (google 'em) has them, but they are stock style and pricey. If you're wanting a custom wound motor, you'll have to get the DANA rear end from another Marathon (not an 86.5 or 87) and swap in so that a 19 spline motor will bolt up. In all likelihood D&D didn't know about the 1.5 year non-DANA hiatus and when you said EZGO Marathon they probably assumed 19 spline.

You may be able to get Luna to rebuild your motor, and re-wind it with your desired torque and speed in mind. They used to offer these type of services. They are capable of completely rebuilding every aspect of a dc motor, not just "new brushes & bearings". Might give them a call & talk to Tim. This project may get so involved/expensive that finding a regular dana 19 spline axle may be more cost effective.

Everyone thanks for all the help. I have to call D&D Motors Monday and see what they will do with the motor they sold me that won't work. Really wanted to beef this cart up a little. Guess I'll just have to settle for the controller upgrade, 36v to 48v upgrade, and back to just the stock OEM motor (2hp).

You Should be able to find a good rear end for $100 and have then have your choice of motors.
