New vs old brake.

New style may have different case-- plastic or metal--black or silverish.

Hope this helps.

Might look up RXV owners man for 2008 rxv on EZ GO website.

No plastic, just powdercoated. And that speed upgrade shouldnt be free, it took a long time for the dealers to get the "cheat code" to unlock danaher controllers. Should not be a ridiculous fee either. But the shop/tech time is worth something (who wants to work for free). The issue for the OEMs is the liability for making PTV cars that dont comply with state & fed PTV standards for lights, reflectors, turn signals, mirrors, horn, Ect.... (there are actual laws and rules for this).

Should have said more clearly--
some around here are jerks-- charging more than reasonable charge for speed setting,
even refusing to do speed change without "servicing" cart.

A reasonable shop charge would not be improper... I still expect owner to
pay me even if i am just reprogramming cart!

If possible find good cart place and make friends !!!

Purchased a 2009 RXV! Cant wait to start modifying it!

Already noticing how the rxv is much different than my other older golf carts.

1. Will take some pictures of the motor brake, its weird that when you turn it 'off' the parking brake is engaged. When i engage brake a little, it seems to keep applying after i let off the brake some, is that normal?

2. The owner said you have to put it in tow mode to charge it, is that how it should be?

3. It has 4 12v Trojans in it, and according to you guys those are known to be bad? he listed them as 2 years old, but the golf cart is 2009 i would think it should still be on its original 12v trojans? not sure if i got ripped off there.

4. This thing is very fast, So im thinking maybe it was already 'programmed' to do 19.5 mph. What does this cart do stock without modifying speed? the usual 12 mph?

5. Very weird how it accelerates, it starts to go then kicks in some major speed. When backing it off my ramp the rear wheels lost traction, and when you floor it the wheels still spin very slow, unlike older golf carts, the wheels spin as much as you put your foot on the pedal. Is there some saftey feature so you dont spin out?

Yes, acceleration is limited by a rpm change/time map (this is why some dont like the torque characteristics of the RXV, it wont dump power and spin the tires like a series cart). The continuing to slow characteristic is normal too, if you take your foot off the gas while going down hill, it will eventually stop instead of continue to roll down hill.

cgtech-- right as usual.

Get used to the driving characteristics...
They are a little different.

Don't brake too hard "locking brakes up" damages parking/emergency brake
(@$250.00 mistake)

More info on "parking/emergency" brake.

brake is "dead mans" brake. Without power applied from controller, brake is locked,
this is fail safe mode-- controller failure or power failure-- cart stops.

You do NOT have to put it in tow mode to charge.
Good rule to live by --" if cart is not moving then its plugged in to charge."
Any battery will last longer with this "rule" enforced.

Acceleration "curve" is programmable-- low, medium and high.
low is good for inexperienced drivers or for people movers-- easy to start and stop smoothly. Excellent slow speed "creeping" control.
medium splits the difference
High -- moves out quick..

Trojans seem to have high failure rate... many factors could cause this.
GOLF course maint. can be anywhere from great to non-exisrant.
Bulk watering systems can over or under water batts.
cartboys could not charge carts.let batts get well below 50% soc.
terminals might not be cleaned or tightened.

We haven't even talked about drunk golfers abusive driving.

Look on battery terminals, date should be stamped on lead terminal.
should be letter ( one of the first 12 of alphabet-month- and number- last digit of Year) B9 = feb 2009

Most GOLF carts set to @13mph.

PLEASE DO NOT add to or modify wire harness on cart without checking here first!!!!

several examples on this site of "Stuff that works great on any other cart"
causing controller failure. ($$$$.$$)

Pics !!

Good luck -- Looking forward to future posts...

If the 4 x 12volts are ready to be replaced, I'd look at installing the battery tray that can hold 6 x 8volt batteries. I did that on my RXV and there was still plenty of room for a voltage reducer, etc. It just takes some time to install.

GPS the speed to get a MPH. RXV's definitely get up to speed a lot quicker so it feels like you're going faster. What type of charger was included with the cart?

Read -- but don't panic!

Most problems on those threads fall into several categories.

1) battery -- easy fix
a) no bulk water system
b) do maint and don't discharge deeply.
c) switch battery trays to 6x8v or use non trojan batts.

2) Parking/emergency brake -- replace with non lever type. Dont abuse brake.

3) solenoid - replace if it gives trouble.

The threads rib33024 listed were before Problems were properly identified and solutions known.

again-- read but don't panic.

The solenoid problem... Ezgo used a 80a solenoid for years (series TXT, PDS, DCS) that was too small and prone to failure, only difference now is that they had too many failures while still under warranty and upgraded to a better trombetta one which shouldnt be a problem again until a big upgraded RXV controller is available to the masses (something i dont see happening until real brakes are in a electric rxv on the assembly line, something else i dont see happening).
