Question 89 ezgo txt rear axle bearing replacment

New one to me ! Was told by seller left rear axle bearing shot. To my surprise when I went to remove the wheel the entire axle/ hub/ and wheel came out ! Bearing is demolished, I assume I can use a puller to get it out. Puzzle at least for me is what was holding the axle in the differential ? I don't see a groove in the end of the axle for a LOCK RING !!
Apparently guidance is need....grateful to all who respond Thanks !!

I think its called Luck!

When My son redid my axle on a 2005 Bad Boy Buggy/EZGO, when he jacked it up the axle just slid out and did an amazing bounce

I thought the plate that holds it in has four Bolts- and I have been wrong before!

Two retaining rings hold the drum end bearing in place and the bearing holds the axle in place.

The axle diameter is larger inboard of where the bearing sits, so it cannot come out when bearing is intact.
The same thing exists at the other end where the axle goes into the differential gear assembly.

Here is a drawing of it. (Section A in upper left.)

Also attached is a parts manual for a '88, which should be the same.

WOW !! Hit the jackpot with you sir Johnny B. ! A picture is worth a thousand words. The entire bearing assembly shown in the schematic is completely destroyed. I got some of it out with a pick...is there anyway short of purchasing a slide hammer to get the remaining races and so on out ? As always grateful for help and advice

Try your local auto store for a loaner or tool rental place for a slide hammer with reverse jaw puller just for this reason.

It is probably rusted in place.
Make sure the outer snap ring is out, then spray generously with Kroil and let it set for a while.
