Default Scotty B need Help solenoid getting hot without moving

97 ezgo 36 volt cart when you have the key on and the F/R switch is engaged in either direction the solenoid clicks to activate ,leaving this in forward or reverse for any amount of time with out any motion from the acceerator pedal results in the solenoide getting so hot you cant touch it ..

So shouldnt the solenoid only engage when the pedal is depressed or am i thinking wrong ?

Could the ITS be bad therefore sending current when its not supposed to ??

Or bad diode so its shorting out on the small post ...

Solenoid is typically supposed to close only when pedal is pressed. Its not likely the diode, that should stop the cart dead.

What drive system, Series or SepEx?

If it is a Series drive, its is probably just an issue associated with the pedal switch, but if it is a SepEx drive, it could also be a bad controller.

Something else is wrong too. The solenoid should not get to hot to touch.

The solenoid activation is wired incorrectly. likely somebody has bypassed the Pedal micro switch or the circuit is directly wired from the F&R or the key switch. Either way it potentially leaves the solenoid engaged beyond it's service limits if the key is left on or the cart is left in gear.

Additionally look at your solenoid cable wiring. If you have one cable on each big solenoid terminal move cable 3 from controller B+ to solenoid terminal with cable 2 on it. If solenoid continues to heat beyond ambient plus 20º replace it.

OK so after all the help full tips on here it got me thinking why the solenoid was engaged all the time. So I opened up the floor to get to the ITS. Turns out that someone must have replaced it at one time and never reset the large wheel that's on the plunger . Therefore the micro-switch was engaged all the time. I reset it with a 7/32 drill bit and then spun the large wheel until it made contact to shut off the solenoid. Thanks for all the help guys
