Default '90 club car resistor coil smells hot

Hey guys. New to the golf cart world, so thanks in advance for your help. We recently bought a 1990 club car. Only gonna be used for putting around the neighborhood. the 6v batteries were shot and the cart has sat in a barn for several years. I work for an electric wheelchair company and have access to 12v wheelchair batteries. They are deep cycle batteries as well. We wired the 6 of them so we still have a 36v system in place. 3 banks of 2x12v batteries. Question is, can this cause the resistor coils to overheat? We noticed a hot smell after driving a short time. I'm thinking it's just years of dirt and barn dust burning off, but my dad is afraid we've overloaded the system by changing from the original batteries. His main concern is a green wire that was coming off the center batteries in the original configuration. His thinking was this split the original battery pack in two, effectively sending 18v in forward and 18v in reverse. Since we effectively have three 12 volt batteries, it's not possible to split in half. So we'd have 24v one way and 12 the other. Is that even how that works? Thanks for the help guys.

to the forum!

The green wire provided 18v when the FNR was in reverse in order to have a slower speed.

You can just connect the green wire to pack positive, which is the 36v battery post.

Most likely the issue is with the VGlide not correctly adjusted so the wiper arm is not reaching the top position which causes the last coil to always remain in the circuit.
