8v batteries overcharging?
I bought a used 6x8v (48v) cart Club Car DS (1996) with 2yr old trojan 875's. All batteries test about the same on liquid gravity (maybe on the high side).
With either the stock charger or a trickle /maintainer charger, the pack routinely charges to 56-ish volts before the charger(s) stop, then quickly stabilize to 52-53 or so. Each/all batteries show consistently high voltage of 8.5 to 9 volts. Same readings on two different VOM's. Is this a normal aberation???? THANKS . . . |

Re: 8v batteries overcharging?
Sounds normal for battery voltage on the charger shut off at 56ish Volts. Looks like a healthy battery pack....

+1
Numbers look good to me too coming off a charge. Wait 12-24 hours after the charge to check voltage and report back with those individual battery and whole pack volts. |

from scottyb's cartsunlimited.net site
a newer battery pack should be at 50.93 volts after 12-24 hrs |

Re: 8v batteries overcharging?
Voltage cut-off for any 48v GC charger should be between 56v and 65v. It will take 12-24 hours for the pack to settle and show what it can hold.

Re: 8v batteries overcharging?
It does stabilize at around 51V after 48 hours.
Thanks for all the input. I am at peace now. You guys are the champs |

Re: 8v batteries overcharging?
For instance, when the golf cart in my avatar was fairly new to me, It had the 4-12V
Trojan batteries. They were less than a yr old when I got the cart. I took emasculate care of them, Charging them when I should, keeping then clean. Making sure there were the proper level with Adding distilled water as needed They are 6-yrs old now and still hold a +50.9 V charge after a 12 hr rest period. But the 50.9 V charge is getting harder to obtain compared to my old +62V readings that I used to get with a new battery pack after a 12 hr rest, In other words, it's declining, the batteries are getting weaker. I can take reading on every battery, SG and voltage, I can tell that they are dying, Both of those readings are declining over time "Several Yrs". My pack would go to 65 V +on charge, settle out over 24-48 hrs to around 50.2 or better volts. Your pack sounds normal and healthy. |
