Default Rebuild G29 After Flood

I have acquired a Yamaha YDRE, I think that’s a G29, that was under water for about a week in 2016. It’s been sitting in the same place since then.

I got it a few months ago. The only thing I have been able to test is the motor. I was able to get it to turn by jumping it with a 12v battery.

I spoke with a local golf cart shop yesterday and they said, probably $3k to replace all the electrical components.

I know wiring, but have never worked on a golf cart. My plan is to replace all of the wiring and sensors to see if I can get it going. Then spend the big money for a riot kit and new batteries

Have a friend with the exact same cart and flood damage. He said they only had to replace a switch near the gas pedal and his started working.

I just read through the Yamaha website to get a parts list. Could y’all take a look at it and see if anything sticks out?

Also, should I abort? Could try to find a running cart and switch my lift, tires, and back seat. I think I would be close to the same money though. And with the rebuild I can have better parts!

Transmitter unit not needed, it's a "dealer only diagnostic tool" that won't help you. (Because it's only half of the tool).

CG, will this be fairly plug and play?

I’m thinking I will lay the new harness out in the car, unplug the old and plug in the new. Then remove and replace each sensor/switch.

I thought that. Was trying to come up with a list from wiring diagrams. Probably won’t really order the buzzer. Thanks!

If you have kids that will drive the cart, you'll want a reverse buzzer. Just ask my garage door

So, did a lot of testing tonight. Found power at the key switch, tow/run switch, forward/rev switch, accelerator switch, and 1 side of the solenoid.

I was not able to get the solenoid to open or click or anything. I tried to jump the solenoid with a pair of plyers. I got some sparks, but no forward movement.

What do I do next?

No. I haven’t ordered any parts yet. Trying to check what I have first.

I would strip it down completely - drain the rear end and flush and refill. I would go with an aftermarket Alltrax controller. You will probably need a wiring harness. I would disassemble and clean / lube the motor even if it runs. Chuck the solenoid and switches too.
