Default Re: Stereo install - dual power question

To further this inquiry, it would seem that the best solution may be to use another convertor to power the yellow stereo wire. However, this would result in two different grounds, one each from the convertors. How is everyone doing this?

While you can certainly use two converters there is no reason to do that.

You can use a marine type radio or one that does not require constant power to preserve the memory, lots of options.

If You don't already have a converter get one that has both "constant" and "switched" 12v outputs, again many options.

If You just have a plain converter You can wire it so it is "always on" and then use a 48v relay activated by the key switch that provides a "switched" 12v output from the "always on" 12v converter.

You can try a single 8v battery (instead of a 12v) as described in post #9, but the ability to preserve memory will be dependent on how much voltage your specific radio needs to preserve the memory.

I have mine connected to a switch by the stereo that powers on the unit, but preserves the memory. If you're mounting the radio overhead, be sure to get a marine radio. They can be seen from any angle. If you put a regular car stereo in there you won't be able to see the display at the angle you're in the cart. Lesson learned for me.
