Default 2002 club car 48v headlights

Hey guys I recently acquired a 2002 club car ds 48v cart it's an IQ model.I am wondering how Club car had these 48v carts wired to the 12v headlights..this cart had a melted head light socket..I replaced the lights and I notice the housings get very hot and I dont want to mess the new ones up..Both lights are getting 16 to 17 volts ..I did run 8 volts to them but then the 12v flasher wouldent work for my signals and no horn..I have orderd a 48v to 12v reducer with an on and off wire but havent gotten it yet,I am just curious if this cart had factory headlights how did they not go up in flames before this lol.

They probably were not factory. The voltage reducer is the correct way to do it

Are you only planning on running lights on the reducer? If you want to run other accessories later, a fuse distribution box is the way to go.

I am going to just run the factory lights,I also had a question about the converter..is it going to be ok hooking that small wire to 48 volts because that's what I get when I probe the ignition and in only want the converter on when the key is on because I heard it will drain the batteries if it's wired directly to the batteries instead of key any thoughts?

The trigger wire from the reducer can connect to the key switch, but the power (neg) needs to go the OBC, + to pack. (edit for clarity)

A 5 wire reducer. The 5 wires are: 1) Battery pack +, 2) Controller B-, 3) Accessory feed 12V + (or fuse panel), 4) Accessory feed 12v - (ground block), 5) Switched side of ignition switch to turn the reducer on and off.
