The bolted on lever on the front of the switch should be pointed upward. It has two flat sides and will only go up or down. The lever on the back of the shift handle is the same way, pointed upward. I thought that was what I was seeing in the pictures. Both pointed upward is correct.

This document shows the correct linkage arrangement. Do not loosen the center nut. That decreases contact pressure and causes catastrophic failure of the switch.

Thank you for your responses. Maybe I need to slide the F/R switch over to left or right as you suggested. I still cant figure out why when I switch 3 and 9 the cart goes forward and reverse but when I normalize it it will only go in reverse. you think that maybe the F/R switch is to far over in one direction which could cause that? I have noticed when I put it in reverse using lever I hear the contact engage but then the lever will go past that it didnt have anything to stop it.

Thank you scottyb, according to the diagram you posted my lever bar is hooked up correctly. Still cant figure out why cart will go only go in reverse when cables at 3 and 9 o'clock are normalized but goes forward and reverse when they are swapped.

By switching the cables between 3 and 9 oclock positions you aren't doing anything that affects the operation of the switch. You're only switching the polarity to the field windings in the motor. Whatever it's doing at 3 and 9, it should do the same at 9 and 3, just in a reversed direction. Doesn't make sense.

I agree with you 100% it doesn't make sense, but that is what's happening and it's driving me nuts. I guess I'll have to rip it all out again and re-install.

Just as a thought, if you now have it so that it will run forward and reverse, but is running opposite of the handle, so that its running reverse in the forward position, leave it that way and swap S1 and S2 at the motor. That "should" make the direction of travel match the selector handle. OR, will swapping it there ALSO make it lose forward ? Curious. See if swapping S1/S2 at the motor creates the same effect as switching it at the FR switch.

Well sthreatt, I swapped S1 and S2 at the motor and now it goes forward when lever is in forward and reverse when lever is in reverse.. any idea on why it's working when swapped at motor as well?
