Default G16 Carb Trouble

My buddy has a 1999 Yamaha sitting around in his garage. He said if I could fix it i could have it. I replaced the carb and fuel filter and drained the old gas. Now it runs however, it stalls out at half throttle unless you pull the choke. If the choke is held out the entire time she runs perfectly. Im assuming I messed something up when I replaced the carb. Any advice?....

More than likely you have an air leak somewhere. Check the air box and the spacer between carb. and intake.

Would that cause it to backfire? Because at full throttle it will backfire unless the choke is pulled out...

Yes it would. Like spriddle says, most likely an air leak.
