Problem with 2005 Gas Club Car at WOT
Hello Everyone. I just purchased a 2005 Gas Club Car Precedent yesterday. When I bought the car it ran great. After I got home I was cruising around the neighborhood and it started dying at WOT. It dies for a second and then picks right up again. I drained the fuel tank, replaced the fuel filter, and even took off the carb, disassembled it and cleaned all the jets, float, bowl, etc with a high quality carb cleaner. Still does it. Anyone have any idea what I'm missing?

Re: Problem with 2005 Gas Club Car at WOT
Welcome to BGW Eclipse!
You sure did a lot of work before you asked for help! (but at least it's all done now, and you won't have to worry about all of that for a while!) Most likely, the previous owner messed with the governor, and the Rev Limiter is kicking in. (It's a safety device to keep your engine from blowing up!) and, it's not a good idea to keep running it that way! There are two things you can do: 1) you can readjust your governor back to factory specs. or 2) disconnect the limiter ground. I'm guessing that your fairly new to carts, so, it would be my suggestion to opt for #1 After the adjustment, the cart will be noticeably slower, 13 or 14 MPH. live with it for a while, at least until you get to know your cart a little better, and spend some time reading here on BGW! The governor arm is on the back of the engine with 2 throttle cables attached to it, 1 cable has a spring between it, and the arm. It's accessible through the access panel in the bag well on the back of the cart! IF, by chance, there is a zip tie on the cable to arm spring... cut the zip tie off, and you should be good to go! Re: Problem with 2005 Gas Club Car at WOT
Thank you LOCKMAN1. That certainly fixed it. I adjusted it so it does not hit the rev limiter. Is that ok? I didn't adjust it to the factory settings. The cart felt super slow. Does changing the clutch spring make a noticeable difference? Looking to try and get the maximum performance. Any recommendations?
Thanks |

Re: Problem with 2005 Gas Club Car at WOT
Where you adjusted it to is just fine! And the clutch spring(s) won't help for maximum speeds.
I understand your feeling for "the need for speed"... almost all of us "have it" here at BGW! There's a lot of things that one can do to make these single cylinder, mini cars to go faster. All I'm suggesting is... ride your cart "as is" for a few+ months, learn how it starts, stops, and turns etc. then picture all of that in your head at almost double the speed! A prime example... I've had my cart up to 32mph, the steering got "squirrelly" and the stock brakes were almost nonexistent! as Larry the Cable Guy would say it... "I almost had to replace my undershorts!" With or without major modifications, and without the use of common sense, and safety, golf cars can be dangerous at higher speeds, because... they just weren't originally designed for "going fast"! When your ready... read some of the past threads in this section, They'll tell you everything you need to know on how to get your cart to go faster. but, always remember... Safety First! Congrats on your new cart! |
