Default new clutch drive and spring, now it wont go into gear

I recently replaced the clutch drive assembly and the spring that came with it on my 2006 club car caryall 294. the replacement part that we used was not identical to the one we pulled out, but it fit so we installed it. the new clutch was labeled "rapid response clutch" and the old one was not. we did NOT replace the belt. the cart is driveable, however you have to push the brake harder to keep it from rolling forward at idle- almost too hard. also, it is really difficult to get the thing to go from nuetral to forward or reverse. so hard that I feel like im going to break the lever every time i need to put it in gear. any help would be greatly appreciated!

since the new parts were installed, it seems liek if there is any tension on the system it will not shift from forward or reverse into nuetral. the easiest way to get it out of gear is to just turn off the cart and then shift into neutral with it off.

The oridginal clutch has a roller bearing in between the two clutch halfs, so when the engine is idleing the belt is stopped and not rubbing on a rotating shaft, your clutch is trying to rotate the belt even when you are stopped, somethings not right there, belts too tight maybe, might need to slide the engine back or get a longer belt, if you force the shifter, something will break sooner or later

You need a longer belt. Just enough that it makes light contact with the clutch shaft. The stock clutches had the roller bearing on the shaft to keep the belt tight to help eliminate harsh starts.
