Re: Swapping Curtis Controller 1204 to 1205M
Jimigoe, yes it can support 3 throttle types, but it has to be programmed for a specific one.
I'm still going with wrong throttle type. I think you are wasting your time with anything else until the controller throttle parameter matches your throttle input. |

Re: Swapping Curtis Controller 1204 to 1205M
Thanks Sunoco, you are right, looking at the manual you need to program the throttle type. The default of the 1205M-5605 is set for 5K-0 Ohms, fortunately my 97 CC DS has a 5K-0 potentiometer in it, I checked it with a ohm meter. I think they changed from 0-5K in late 95.
Anyway, the somewhat good news is now the cart works in forward after I put in the “By-Pass Cable” around the computer like BU tech support suggested. I have the old cable going thru the computer from B- on the controller to the negative battery and the new cable going directly from the B- to the negative batter by passing the computer. Like I said it runs great in forward with about the same speed as the old controller but a lot more torque. Unfortunately it won’t go in reverse. The buzzer goes off but the cart won’t move. Back to scratching my head on this one. |

Is your stock controller black or grey? Can you post some pics of controller?

Re: Swapping Curtis Controller 1204 to 1205M
Here are the pics of my old 1204 stock controller.
As for my "No Reverse" problem, I tested the throttle pot at the controller and in forward it is 5K-0 Ohms when I press the gas as expected but in reverse it is 10K-5K so the controller would not kick in. There is a 5K resistor that gets added to the reverse throttle coming from Micro Switch 3 when the direction handle is put in reserve. I jumped out the 5K resistor and the reverse throttle is now 5K-0 and the cart works in reverse and forward. |

Cool. If you want to sell your old controller, there is another member looking for one. He posted a want ad in the parts thread

Nick you are best to start a new thread and give us your own particular details so we can help you. Different carts require different needs.

Re: Swapping Curtis Controller 1204 to 1205M
Yes, it's 7 years later. The carts a 1999, so we're good. I am having to replace a 14 year old Alltrax AXE controller. The OEM was a CURTIS 1204 275 amp. Cart is LIFTED, 22" TIRES, 4 pass, on the hilly ranch, hauling. I am looking at these 1205's at 500 amps. Cool. I looked up your issue with the throttle wiring. CURTIS says: "Throttle Types 1, 3, 4, 5
Wiring for Type 1, 3, 4, and 5 throttles is the same as for Type 0 throttles; again, it doesn’t matter which wire goes on which terminal. With these throttles, resistance is in an inverse relationship to applied throttle; that is, resistance decreases as applied throttle is increased." So it should work straight up. Wadaya think now,.. was it a good idea? |
