94 eletric marathon drive shaft removal?
working on a cart with bad bearings on the planetary(?) gears. owner neglected the rear end and allowed water to get into the dif. the oil turned into a brown sludge and rusted out the races. i usually work on club cars so i'm a little in the dark on this one. i removed the drums and inner retaining clip but still can't pull the shafts to remove the bearings. The question is once i removed that retaining ring is there anything else holding the shafts in place? Is there something i'm not seeing/don't know still holding them in or are the splines just that rusted in like i think. Also any tips on how to pull them if they are just rusted in? thanks

Re: 94 eletric marathon drive shaft removal?
Welcome to BGW EZGO! I think there is nothing else to hold them in, but someone else will chime in soon. ScottieB has a way to get them off, and it involves putting the drums on backward, I think.I have worked on an EZGO rear end, but did not have to pull the axle shafts, so I am not sure! Glad you got an EZGO!

try doing a search on "brake drums" and scottieb. Maybe that'll do it for you. I think I got it right, tho. Just tug with your hands, tho, not too much force......

EZGO hubs are a little different from CC hubs......

just don't tighten the lug nuts down tight.
That's the way we used to do ford axles |

Towards the end of my service career I welded a castle nut to a 2.5 pound slide hammer. This little baby pulled and installed axles like a dream.
But the loosely installed reverse brake drum works too. |

Re: 94 eletric marathon drive shaft removal?
That's a good idea scottyb. I work on just club cars really but if I start dealing with more ezgos I'll defiantly make one of those. I'll try the reverse drum on monday. does anyone have a part diagram for the rear on this cart. are there any seals i have to worry about trashing or replacing when pulling this axle?

The bearing is pressed onto the axle and the wiper seal pressed into the housing - they should be replaced together. Both sides should be done at the same time.
The exploded hub view is on this site someplace... not sure it is on this computer |
