marathon with curtis 1244 controller
I have a 90's marathon . I have an idea to upgrade the controller. I have 3 of these http://www.fsip.biz/Documents/ACFWC9e9x.pdf
I can be adjusted up to 400 amps. can be set up to change fwd and reverse direction internally in the controller, plus a whole bunch of stuff you can set up with the handheld programmer. I'm just getting done welding in a new sub frame assembly for the battery"s and everything is taken out of the cart. My question for the pros is should I go for It On the conversion? Or is it a waste of time. I repair electric material handling equipment. I have all the parts on hand. Thanks. |

Re: marathon with curtis 1244 controller
Marathons had Series wound motors and a Curtis 1244 is a sepex controller.

Yes, that is what I am saying.
More correctly, it won't work unless you change the series wound motor in the cart to a SepEx (Separately Excited) motor and I'm not sure it there is a SepEx motor that fits a Marathon's differential. It might be doable, but it would take a lot of work and $$$. |

Re: marathon with curtis 1244 controller
I knew that you can't use a sepex motor as a series motor cause of the thinner wire in the fields. so then it just means that the fields are wrong. The controller will probably fault. I guess all i can do is look in the pile of motors for a set of fields from a sepex motor or just give up and put the old controller back in. It would be nice though

I don't know if the armature windings are much different between a series and sepex motor, but the stator (field) windings sure are. |
