Re: 250 amp fuse between battery and controller
Alltrax is the only speed control manufacture who uses a fuse. Curtis does not, FSIP does not ....
I have never seen one burnt. I have seen carts burnt up with good fuses still intact ..... I'm not saying don't use them, I am saying you could probably go ahead and install this weekend and put the fuse in when it arrives. |

Re: 250 amp fuse between battery and controller
Just called West Marine, a retail boating store, and he said they had these fuses! It makes sense, large offshore boats have huge battery banks and inverters.

Re: 250 amp fuse between battery and controller
Don't expect a fuse like this to protect the controller because in most cases it won't.

Re: 250 amp fuse between battery and controller
A fuse is a fire protection device. It is not an equipment protection device. In fact, due to the ampacity of the fuses used in the high current circuits of golf carts, its utility as a fire protection device is marginal.
An ANN-250 fuse will pass about 3,000A for about 10 milliseconds (0.01 Seconds) while the semiconductors in a controller will fail in microseconds (0.000001 seconds), so when a short occurs, the controller protects the fuse. Attached are charts and literature for your reading enjoyment. |

Re: 250 amp fuse between battery and controller
Great news! So what you're telling me is that I bought a $25 fuse for nothing? Autozone had 175 amp 32v fuse for $5, sounds like that may be a better option.

Thats not totally true, alltrax requires a fuse be present for the 2 year warranty. So you get a 2 year warranty out of the deal.. |

Re: 250 amp fuse between battery and controller
As JohnnyB said, a fuse can't fail fast enough to protect the controller from damage. It can keep your cart from burning to the ground though.
